About

If you walk past me on the street I just look like every other mum on a mission, possibly with 2 children and a husband in toe and a head full of to do’s and lists.
What you don’t see is my quirky sense of humour, my love of McDonalds and the need of a quiet place to retreat to at the end of the day so I can fill my cup ready for whatever life brings me tomorrow.

Hi, and Welcome to Calm Mind Hub. It is great to have you here

My name is Melissa Bristow and I started Calm Mind Hub to help myself, my child and other families in the community

As a child I was very quiet, I would cry easily and was considered very sensitive. I felt my feelings strongly but kept them to myself and wanted people around me to be happy even if it meant I missed out or did something I didn’t want to do.

I lacked confidence, self-esteem and resilience and struggled through school trying to fly under the radar so I wouldn’t get any attention good or bad. I internalised my feelings in case I hurt someone else’s feelings.

Fast forward many years and I am now the mother to a child who felt exactly like I did as a child. Luckily for him we moved to the UK for a couple of years and his school offered an emotional learning support group which he was a part of. This was a turning point for him. He would learn the same things I was trying to teach him at home but from someone who was not his parent (because they know more than mum and dad) and it also gave him the opportunity to see that other children had similar feelings.

The difference I saw in my son and the changes I had made as an adult was life changing and who am I to keep this to myself? I could see how something like this could have helped me through primary and high school and I wanted to give kids and their parents the same opportunity. I am lucky to be someone who has gone through many of the things the kids have but can also see how this effects their parents and the rest of the family.

Calm Mind Hub is not only here to support kids but to support their parents and a community as a whole. It takes a village to raise a child and unfortunately that village is getting smaller and smaller. I would love to be a part of your village and if you feel the same please reach out and contact me.
